Who rocked and who shocked on the red carpet at the American Music Awards 2012.

While the majority of celebrities shone on the red carpet at last night's (18 November) American Music Awards in sparkling gold and silver tones, Nicki Minaj and buddy Christina Aguilera failed too blend in with the crowd.

The divas stuck out like sore thumbs in striking outfits that pushed the fashion boundaries a bit too far. Minaj arrived on the red carpet in a neon gown which resembled a bright merinque, while Aguilera squeezed her voluptuous curves into a purple ombre dress that offset her orange fake tan and blonde bobbed wig a bit too much.
Model Heidi Klum, on the other hand, managed to redeem herself from her recent EMAs shocker, in a short gold Mandarin collar dress which would have left more to the imagination if it weren't for her thigh-high slit and super-short hemline.
Golden girl Taylor Swift hit the nail on the head yet again in an exquisite gold sequinned Zuhair Murad long-sleeved dress.
American Music Awards winners
Justin Bieber won the award for favourite artist of the year, beating Rihanna, Katy Perry, Maroon 5 and Drake, as well as favourite pop/rock album.
Rapper Nicki Minaj also was a multiple winner, taking awards for favourite rap/hip-hop album and favorite rap/hip-hop artist. Rihanna, who was on tour and did not attend, won an award for favorite soul/R&B album.

Canadian pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen took home the new artist-of-the-year title.
Usher was named best male soul/R&B artist. Katy Perry was voted favourite female pop/rock artist and Beyonce took favourite soul artist. The latter two did not attend the show.
