Their plans were thwarted by the police while they were trying to collect the ransom.
P.M. NEWS investigation revealed that the househelp, Mary Achime,27, from Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin, was employed six months ago by Mrs Ayo Asolo,who resides in Surulere.
Mary allegedly recruited other suspects, Prosper Tatou, 29, Jean Mari Tatou, 27, Tunde Daisi , 23 and John Dansu, 26 to carry out their criminal plot.
It was gathered that when her employer had gone to work Mary contacted Tunde to pack all property belonging to her employer and flee.
When Mrs Osolo returned home, she lodged a complaint at the Bode Thomas Police station.And a few days later she was contacted on phone by one of the kidnappers that her housegirl was with them that she should speak with her.
The housegirl spoke with her boss and confirmed she was kidnapped at her employer’s residence.
She pleaded that the N5 million ransom should be paid in good time for her to regain her freedom.
But Mrs Osolo contacted the Police who advised her to play along..One of the suspects , Prosper Tatoun,who gave his bank account number for ransom to paid into, was promptly arrested.
He later led the police to Palace Road, Agbara,Ogun state where other three suspects were arrested.
The five suspects are currentlybeing detained at Bode Thomas Pollice Division, Surulere, Lagos.
A source told our correspondent this morning that the suspects will be arraigned in court soon.
One of the suspects, Tunde Daisi in his confessional statement to the police alleged that Mary approached him and said that her boss is rich and she could afford to pay any ransom placed on her, if the gang kidnapped her.
He stated that he jumped at the proposal because he was broke and needed money.
Prosper Tatou who submited her account number confessed he is a bricklayer and that he agreed to work with the gang beacuse he had no work to do.
