Peace Ambassador Agency To Host 2015 Peace Conference In Abuja‏

 Peace Ambassador Agency is set to flag-off another peace related project and awareness campaign with the Theme "The role of the Nigerian Youths and Media in the forthcoming Elections. The sole aim of the conference is to sensitize Nigerians on the need to have a peaceful elections. Security assurance and as well as promote the ideals of peaceful living before, during and after the elections.

Boko Haram burns military camp in Yobe town

Suspected members of Boko Haram sect  attacked a military camp in Ngelzarma town of Yobe state, burning the military camp as well as a trailer load of grains meant for traders in the town.
According to Daily Trust, the sect members arrived the town at about 4pm and started shooting sporadically into the air. A security source who doesn't want to be named said that the attackers came in a very large number.

I and my team underestimated Boko Haram – president Jonathan

President Jonathan said he underestimated the strength of terror group Boko Haram when he assumed office as President but now believes that the leader of the sect will be arrested before the elections.
    "I think the thing that has brought this government down with both Nigerians and non-Nigerians, is the issue of Boko Haram. One thing is that terrorism is all over the world, but they believe that we did not handle it the way we were supposed to handle it. Probably at the beginning, we and I mean myself and the team, we underrated the capacity of the Boko Haram. Capacity not in terms of what they have in Nigeria, but their international linkages, we underrated that and thought that we were dealing with some local elements that we could overrun.

Uma Ukpai of Victory Cathedral Fellowship Center, in Akwa Ibom, has announced to his church members yesterday that members who are yet to have their PVCs will not be allowed to have communion again in the church, except they present one. Ukpai said that, this election is too important for a Nigerian of voting age not to participate in it. Below is what he said;

Jega Tells Senators He Can’t Guarantee Presidential Elections Will Hold March 28

 According to Saharareporters The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, has told Nigerian federal lawmakers he could not guarantee the 2015 general elections will hold on rescheduled dates in March and April.
At a meeting with Senators Wednesday, Mr. Jega said he could not commit himself to the “sanctity” of March 28 and April 11 – dates for the rescheduled Nigeria’s general elections.

FG blocks N208billion ghost workers scam in the Civil Service

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala yesterday revealed that the federal government has blocked a N208.7 billion ghost workers scam in government parastatals and agencies after a biometric collection exercise carried out to get a proper data of federal civil servants revealed that 62,893 of the workers who were hitherto on the payroll of the federal government were ghost workers.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, the Minister said when the biometric exercise was introduced, most of the civil servants did not show up, an indication that they were ghost workers and after their disengagement, the federal government has been able to save about N208.7 billion usually expended as salaries and benefits on these ghost workers

Senate summons Prof Jega to explain election postponement

The Senate has summoned INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega to appear before them tomorrow, February. 18th, to explain the reasons for the postponement of the general elections. They also want him to bring card readers to demonstrate how they would use them during the forthcoming elections.

We’ll kill 20 for each police life lost during elections - AIG Mbu

According to a report on Premium Times, the newly posted Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Joseph Mbu has threatened to take the lives of 20 people if any of his men are killed unjustly during the elections. AIG Mbu made the threat at a meeting with the Ogun State Command at its Eleweran Headquarters, Abeokuta.  “If one of my men is killed, I shall kill 20 of them but don’t shoot first. If they shoot you, shoot back in self-defence. Anybody who fires you, fire him back in self-defence. We are in a critical period. We are not para-military. We must be bold and brave. Keep an eagle eye on everybody. We are authorised by the constitution to arrest before, during and after election. Our role is to ensure free, fair and violence free election.” he said
 AIG Mbu, is the same man who had a running battle with Governor Rotimi Amaechi when he served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers state.

Obanikoro sues Sahara Reporters, Punch, others

     Former Minister of State for Defence, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro has gone to court to seek redress over a case of defamation of character by online newspapers Sahara Reporters and Premium Times. Joined in the suit are Punch Newspapers Ltd., Omoyele Sowore, Publisher of Sahara Reporters and Festus Owete, General Editor at Premium Times. The defendants had published an audio recording of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, purportedly in a conversation with other individuals to rig the Ekiti State gubernatorial elections, an allegation Senator Obanikoro and the others have since disclaimed.

 The Nigeria Police Force says it regrets to announce the sudden death of one of its most dedicated officers, AIG Ibrahim Maishanu, who passed away on Sunday, 8th of February, 2015 at an Indian Hospital while undergoing an undisclosed treatment.
AIG Ibrahim Maishanu until his death was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information Technology, Force Headquarters in Abuja. He was aged 55.

INEC was never ready for elections - PDP Chairman Muazu says

PDP Chairman Adamu Muazu says that INEC was never prepared for the earlier proposed date of February 14th for the general elections.In a related development, the Chairman of the PDP Presidential campaign organization, Sen. President Jonathan To Speak On Current National Issues Tomorrow

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will host a special edition of the Presidential Media Chat tomorrow, Wednesday, February 11, 2015.
During the programme, which will be broadcast live on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) from 1900 Hours, President Jonathan will respond to questions from a panel of journalists on current national issues.
All other television and radio stations in the country may hook-up to NTA and FRCN to relay the programme to their viewers and listeners.

Former Plateau governor's father kidnapped, abductors demand $10m ransome

Unknown gunmen kidnapped the 80 year old father of former governor of Plateau state, Sen. Joshua Dariye, and are now demanding $10 million for his release.
According to reports, nine gunmen stormed the residence of Pa Defwang Dariye at Mushere, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday night February 7th, shot sporadically in the air before gaining access into his residence and then whisking him away on a motorcycle.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, We invited you here today to make known the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the timetable for the 2015 general elections. Let me state from the outset that the Commission’s position was reached after carefully weighing the suggestions from briefings held with different stakeholders in the electoral process.
The conduct of elections in a country like Nigeria is invariably a collective venture that involves not just the Election Management Body (EMB), but also a diverse range of stakeholders, notably security agencies, political parties and their candidates, voters, as well as interest groups, such as the civil society organizations and the media.To guarantee successful conduct of elections, there are things that are wholly the responsibility of the EMB. But there are other things critical for the success of elections, which fall outside the control of the EMB.

PDP welcomes postponement of the 2015 general elections

The PDP has welcomed the postponement of the general elections. Reacting, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, Femi Fani-Kayode said the decision made by INEC was in the interest of the whole nation as well as a move to deepen our democracy.

INEC To Decide Tomorrow If Elections Will Hold Next Week Or Not

 The pressure of shifting the forthcoming polls on INEC is yet to be over. In a statement released today by Kayode Idowu, the spokesperson for INEC Chairmain, Attahiru Jega, Mr Kayode made it known that INEC  has fixed separate meetings with chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties, and resident electoral commissioners (RECs) for Saturday to decide whether to go ahead with the general elections scheduled for February 14 and 28.
According to him, the Commission will brief the nation on its decision with regard to whether or not the general elections will hold as currently scheduled.

Most Governments all over the world do better in their second tenure-President Jonathan

President Jonathan has said he will do better when elected for a 2nd term.Speaking with traditional rulers in Kogi State before the presidential rally in Lokoja, President Jonathan said most governments worldwide perform better during the second term of their administrations.Vanguard reports..
According to the president, public office holders perform better during their second term because they have enough time to settle down and plan quickly.
He said:
     “Whatever we have done in the last four years, we believe that we will even do more in the next four years. Most governments all over the world do better in their second tenure.
    “This is because the Presidents are more stable that time, especially in this two-term arrangement. They sit down and plan for the country and focus on key areas.”

Woman dumps day-old baby by roadside

A new born baby, wrapped in a black sack and covered with a plaster on the mouth, died after being abandoned by the roadside in the Abule Egba area of Lagos by his mother, who's suspected to be mentally unstable.According to Punch, the baby was dumped in the area on Wednesday, January 28 and when people in the area saw the baby instead of helping the baby, they left him there for six hours until the baby died.

PDP condemns Buhari's refusal to participate in Channels TV presidential debate

The PDP presidential campaign group has condemned Gen. Buhari for refusing to participate in yet another presidential debate, this one organized by Channels TV in conjunction with ARISE TV and NPAN. A statement was signed by the party's presidential campaign spokesman, Femi Fani Kayode

"We have been informed that General Buhari and the APC have decided not to participate in the NPAN-Channel Television-organised debate after they had earlier agreed to take part in it. We had thought that having withdrawn from participating in the debate organised by Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), they would have availed themselves this second platform. Now that they have also turned their back on this, it is now very clear that General Buhari is incapable of engaging in rigorous live television debates on the issues of governance.

Man hangs self in uncompleted building in Lagos

Residents of Ile-Iwe community in the Meiran area of Lagos State say they were shocked to see the dangling body of a stranger in an uncompleted building in the area.
Some of the residents told Punch Metro that the victim was on Thursday brought down dead from the rope with which he hung himself.
