3 hotel staff in Lagos arrested for recording customer’s sex act and blackmailing him with it

According to NAN,the employees had used the hotel’s CCTV to record the guest’s sexual exploit with his girlfriend.
The accused: Sunday Okon, 23; Rita Emmanuel, 28; and Goodness Akpan, 24, whose addresses are unknown,Prosecutor Uche Simon told the court that the accused had on Aug. 13 at a hotel in Ogudu area of Lagos conspired to record a guest while sleeping with his girlfriend.The accused produced a VCD on it which they circulated to residents of the area.They also demanded a N10 million ransom and threatened to post it on the facebook if the man failed to part with the money.When he failed to deliver the money, they went ahead to post it between August 13 and 23

Senegal records first case of Ebola

Senegal has recorded its first case of the deadly Ebola virus disease. The Senegalese Health Minister, Awa Marie Coll Seck told newsmen today August 29th that the first case was a Guinean national who arrived Senegal recently. The deadly virus first broke out in Guinea in March this year

According to E!, the legendary comedienne is in a medically induced coma at Mount Sinai hospital in New York.Joan's heart stopped beating shortly after a routine surgery on her throat began at a clinic in NYC and was quickly rushed to the hospital. Her daughter Melissa flew to New York from L.A last night and is said to be by her mother's said.

Boko Haram reportedly ‘beheading’ Christians in Gwoza

According to reports, Boko Haram militants are beheading young men in the Christian community in Gwoza, the Borno town that the insurgent group recently took over and declared an Islamic caliphate.
Sources from the town claim that Christian men who refuse to convert to Islam are being beheaded while the women are being forced into marriages with the insurgents.

    The wife of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is seeking divorce on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour” and “adultery”. She outlined several allegations against the pastor which cannot publish for legal reasons. Boko Haram foreign negotiator names Alimodu Sheriff as Boko Haram sponsor

In a recent interview with Arise News TV, Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davis, who was hired by the Nigerian government some months back to help negotiate with Boko Haram members to facilitate the release of abducted Chibok girls, mentioned the name of former Borno state Governor, Alimodu Sheriff as a sponsor of the terrorist group, Boko Haram. He also said that an unnamed past Chief of Army Staff who was sacked by Pres. Jonathan was also a sponsor of the group.

Ebola: Rivers state Min. of Health ask people who visited hospital where doctor died to come forward

Below is a statement from the Rivers state Ministry of Health calling on all those who visited Samstel Clinic in Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, in the last few weeks to report to the ministry to get tested. Samstel is the hospital where Dr Ikye Enemoah, who died of Ebola, worked.

 President Jonathan  launched the new national e-ID card at the Villa in Abuja today. The new e-ID card which is powered by MasterCard is a multi-purpose card for identification, electronic signatures, and can be used for depositing money, withdrawing and making payments. So it's both an ID card and ATM.
The first phase of the project will see 13million Nigerians issued the card while the next phase will target 100million Nigerians. The project is a partnership with MasterCard, the Nigerian National Identity Management Commission and Access bank. See more photos after the cut

Joan Rivers breathing stopped during surgery

Comedian and E! Fashion Police star Joan Rivers was rushed to the hospital in New York City this afternoon.Joan Rivers, 81, was undergoing a throat procedure in a clinic when she stopped breathing. She was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital in New York where authorities said she's in critical condition.
After her heart stopped breathing during surgery, an emergency call was placed to 911 and the caller said, "We have somebody in either cardiac or respiratory arrest."

TMZ said it's not clear if doctors were able to restart her heart.

SSS arrests Nigeria Football Federation chairman, Aminu Maigari

President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari has reportedly been arrested by the State Security Service agent in Abuja.
Mr Maigari is said to have been arrested yesterday August 26th alongside Musa Amadu the NFF Secretary General and Chris Green, a board member, as proceedings for the General meeting of the NFF began at Chida Hotel in Abuja. Reason for their arrest has not yet been disclosed.
Embattled Maigari was recently reinstated as Chairman of the NFF by FIFA after being impeached by the NFF Board members in July.

Nigeria successfully contains Ebola, has only one case left - Health Minister

Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said today that Nigeria has been able to reduce the number of Ebola cases to just one.
At a press briefing held yesterday August 26th in Abuja, Prof. Onyebuchi said only one patient out of the 13 confirmed cases in Nigeria is still at the Isolation center. He said five of those infected died while seven have successfully recovered and have been discharged. He also said two of the nurses who attended to Patrick Sawyer at the First Consultant hospital were discharged yesterday.

FG postpones resumption of primary & secondary schools to Oct. 15th

The Federal Government has postponed the resumption of primary and secondary schools across the country to October 22nd.Primary and Secondary schools were supposed to resume on September 22nd, FG postponed it indefinitely to prevent an outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease. They announced yesterday that schools can resume October 15th.
The Federal Government also stopped all summer schools.

World's 'tallest man', Leonid Stadnyk, dies at age 44

Leonid Stadnyk, believed to be the world's tallest man at 8ft 4 inches has died. He was just 44. The peasant farmer from the Ukrainian village of Podoliantsy, died on Sunday August 24th from a brain haemorrhage after health problems.
In his last interview, Leonid, who wears a  talked about how his height was a curse, why he refused to be measured by the Guinness Book of World Records and also why he refused to get married
    "To me, my height is a curse, a punishment from God, not something to celebrate. What sin I have committed, I do not know. All my life I have dreamed of being just like everyone else. I don't want or need the fame that this would bring so I have no desire to be in this Guinness book.
    "I never got married because I don't want to inflict my problems on a wife. I think it would not be fair on her" he said.
At one point, his condition, called giganticism, left him growing at the rate of roughly a foot every 3 years. His feet measured 18 inches in length while his palms were more than a foot in diameter

Enugu Deputy Governor Impeached

The embattled Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Sunday Onyebuchi has been impeached by the State House of Assembly today.
His impeachment, which was carried out precisely at 10:39 am came after the House adopted the 7-man panel report that investigated allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him by 22 of the 24 members of the House.
The motion for the adoption of the report was moved by the House Leader, Hon. S.K.E Udeh-Okoye. He said the panel of investigation had come up with the conclusion that the “allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Onyebuchi by the House have been approved.”

It would be recalled that the State Chief Judge had earlier set up a 7-man panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Sunday Onyebuchi before his impeachment.

Late Dr Adadevoh's younger sister reportedly tests positive to Ebola

According to Sahara Reporters, the younger sister of late Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh who died of Ebola on Tuesday August 19th has been confirmed to have Ebola and has been hospitalized. The report below..
    SaharaReporters has learned today that Amy Ngozi Adadevoh, younger sister of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, has reportedly tested positive for the Ebola virus.
    Miss Adadevoh had previously been a suspected case, a suspicion confirmed today by blood test. She has been moved to isolation at the Ebola treatment center in Lagos. She joins two other patients there undergoing evaluation and treatment.

Chris Brown 'shot at', Suge Knight 'injured' during LA nightclub party

According to a breaking news report on Daily Mail and TMZ, singer Chris Brown was 'shot at' in the early hours of this morning at a pre-VMAs party at 10AK night club in LA. Chris, who was hosting the party, was not injured but music label boss Suge Knight was shot twice. Two others were injured, one of them said to be in critical condition.
According to Daily Mail, witnesses at the scene claimed that Chris Brown was the target of the shooting, but TMZ said they weren't so sure who the target was.

DSS warns of planned suicide bombing by women dressed in Catholic sisters attire

The Department of State Services has raised alarm over fears that some female suicide bombers are planning to carry out bombing attacks in Nigeria while dressed in Catholic Reverend Sisters attire.
According to a press statement signed by the Deputy Director Public Relations of the DSS Marilyn Ogar, some unidentified persons stormed a local tailoring store in Odutola street in the Sabongari area in Kano state on Wednesday August 20th and stole 13 pieces of Catholic Reverend sisters attire.
The DSS says with the recent increase in female suicide bombings, the stealing of the attires calls for great concern. The DSS called on all Nigerians to be extra vigilant and observant of anyone wearing such regalia.Press statement after the cut...

Former MD of UBA bank, Mr Tony Elumelu has donated N50m to support the Federal Government's effort to contain the Ebola virus in Nigeria.
Dan Nwomeh, the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Health Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu announced this today on social media.
The management of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria also donated an ambulance to the Ebola Emergency Operation Centre in Lagos .

US doctor with Ebola to be released from hospital today

Dr Kent Brantly, the American doctor who contracted the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia while working as a missionary in the country will be released from Atlanta's Emory University Hospital today August 21st after being successfully treated.
According to the spokesperson of the hospital, Vince Dollard, Dr. Kent's blood samples came back negative for the virus after undergoing proper screening for two days. Dr. Kent is expected to give a statement regarding his discharge later today at a news conference before leaving the hospital.
Dr. Kent and another US missionary Nancy Writebol contracted the disease while working to fight the outbreak in Liberia. After they contracted the disease they were taken to an isolation unit at Emory University Hospital, where they were treated with the experimental drug, ZMapp.

Fake soldier granted interview to BBC - DHQ says

On Tuesday August 19th, a Nigerian soldier spoke with the BBC explaining why himself and some other soldiers refused the order from their superiors to go fight Boko Haram insurgents. Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh Passes On

 Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh one of the doctors who treated late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who brought in Ebola virus to Nigeria has died this afternoon at Mainland hospital, Yaba, where she has been isolated.  Dr Ameyo is survived by a son and her husband Mr Ameyo.

Boko Haram: Some soldiers refuse to fight, demand better equipment

About 40 Nigerian soldiers are reported to have refused orders from their superior to move to the North to fight Boko Haram, saying they will only obey the order if they are provided with better equipment.

Experimental drug developed by Nigerian arrives Nigeria today

 An experimental drug developed by a Nigerian in diaspora for the treatment of Ebola is expected to arrive the country today, the Minister for Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said.
The drug, called “Nanosilver”, has been approved for use by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an experimental treatment ethical in the case of the Ebola epidemic. The Federal Govt yesterday approved the use of experimental drugs in the treatment of the deadly virus.
