Federal Government Declares, August 24, 25 Diaspora Days

The Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja declared August 24 and 25 as Diaspora Days to recognise Nigerians in Diaspora as important stakeholders in national development. This was contained in a statement issued by Mrs Ibukun Odusote, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.
The statement said the days were set aside to create an environment for cross fertilisation of ideas among the Diaspora experts and their Nigerian counterparts.

I’m not expecting ministerial appointment from Buhari- Tunde Bakare

 In an interview with Sahara TV yesterday, the General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, said he is not expecting to be appointed a minister in President Buhari's cabinet.
    "As far as I am concerned, I am not expecting to be named a minister. If I am offered an appointment, when I get to that bridge I will cross it. I am already a minister of the gospel. Ministry is my calling and my life. The word minister means servant. When you expect nothing, you cannot be disappointed. I keep on doing what I am doing, to be a solid supporter of the Buhari movement and what he stands for in public life. I have no regret on what I did in 2011. If an opportunity presents itself, I will do it again. I am not seeking anything.

The former Chief Security Officer of former president Jonathan, Mr Gordon Obua is reportedly lying critically ill at the National hospital. According to friends of the former CSO who shared his photo on Facebook, Mr Obua has continued to suffer both physically and mentally and has been in great pain since the day he returned home on July 21st after being detained by the DSS. They say his abdomen is swollen and he has great difficulty moving around.

The  French kiss can pass on human papilloma virus (HPV). Head of Maxillofacial and Head and neck Surgery at the Royal Darwin Hospital, Dr Mahiban Thomas, said the virus was responsible for 70% of head and neck cancer cases.
Dr Thomas told Daily Mail Australia if you became infected by HPV in the oropharynx, your risk of developing head and neck cancer was 250 times higher than that of someone without the virus.

Baby disappears during naming ceremony in Ogun state

An eight month old baby identified as Hezekiah Opeyemi Ogundele mysteriously disappeared during a naming ceremony held at Inuosegba community in Abeokuta Ogun state yesterday July 26th.
According to The Nation, Hezekiah's brother had taken the baby to the naming ceremony and within minutes, the toddler disappeared. A search party was immediately formed but they were unable to find the baby. What they found instead was a building close to the venue of the ceremony where items suspected to be severed human wrist, school pupils’ bags and uniforms were found.
But for the timely intervention of the operatives the Special Anti – Robbery Squad (SARS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the enraged crowd were bent on bringing down the building. The little boy has still not been found.

Dieziani Alison-Madueke is ill & in UK hospital - Family says


Family members of the immediate past minister of Petroleum resources, Dieziani Alison-Madueke say she is currently ill and at a UK hospital receiving treatment. A family member revealed this to Leadership Newspaper
    "Our daughter has been in hospital where is receiving treatment for some weeks now. She is currently under close medical observation. We learnt that the observation means that she has been unable to see anyone outside close family members over the last few weeks.

Fayose approves N119m car loan for Ekiti workers

    Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has approved the disbursement of a sum of N119m as car loans to 623 workers in the state public service. The state Commissioner for Finance, Chief Toyin Ojo, disclosed this in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, at the weekend. Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) got N82,120,000 while Parastatals and Agencies got N36.80 million.
Chief Ojo, according to a statement by the state Ministry of Information, today, said the loans, which ranged from N800,000 to N1.5 million, was "approved depending on the salary grade level of the benefitting officers."

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi is demanding N1billion compensation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for defaming him. According to Vanguard, Keshi has dragged the NFF to court for “wrongful dismissal and defamation”. A top source told said
    “Keshi’s lawyers have demanded for a billion Naira from the NFF as compensation for defaming their client.A letter from Keshi's lawyers was sent to NFF on Friday July 24th.  Bobbi Kristina Brown has died aged 22 - six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub.
The aspiring singer was rushed to hospital and placed in a medically-induced coma on January 31 after she was discovered face-down in the water-filled tub at her townhouse in Roswell, Georgia.
She passed away, surrounded by her family, at the hospice on Sunday - just 3 years after her famous mother, singer Whitney Houston, died aged 48 in a bathtub at a hotel in Beverly Hills.

NYSC Bars Pregnant Women, Nursing Mothers From Serving

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, has announced that prospective corps members that are pregnant and nursing babies have been barred from participating in the national service across the country. The DG in a statement made available to journalists today also said students undergoing post-graduate studies in institutions of higher learning have also been barred.
He said those affected need not bother to enlist for service “until they are free to participate effectively.”

Tribune is reporting that former First Lady Patience Jonathan was stopped from using the VIP lounge of the Port Harcourt International Airport, recently. Mrs Jonathan, who was in Port Harcourt for the burial of her late Chief Security Officer (CSO), Tamuno Jacob Igbomie, who was killed by unknown gunmen, was said to have been denied access to the VIP lounge, commonly used by dignitaries.

Maryam Abacha university degrees not recognised – NUC

 The National Universities Commission has warned that degrees obtained from Maryam Abacha American University of Niger Republic (MAAUN) are sub-standard and will not be accepted in Nigeria, saying henceforth such certificates would not be recognised as a means of seeking employment or doing other legitimate business in Nigeria.
The NUC Director of Information and Public Relations, Malam Ibrahim Yakasai, handed down the warning while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

EFCC invites Saraki's wife and YarAdua's daughter over allegations of fraud

The wife of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Toyin Saraki and one of the daughters of former President Umaru YarÁdua, Zainab Dakingari have been invited by the EFFC over alleged fraud and money laundering.
Mrs Toyin Saraki is being invited by the antigraft agency to answer questions regarding some alleged questionable flow of income into some companies which she has interest in. PT reports that Mrs Saraki is due to appear at EFFC's headquarters on July 28

DSS presents detained former CSO to GEJ to the public following speculations of his death

Above is Gordon Obua, the former Chief Security Officer to former President Jonathan. He was presented to the press this evening by the Department of State Security at their headquarters in Abuja following speculations that he died in their custody yesterday. The DSS wanted to put an end to the false report by presenting Obua to the public.
The former CSO, who has been held by the DSS since Thursday July 16th, had embarked on hunger strike to protest his detention and fainted on Sunday. He was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and discharged today. He is said to be suffering from hypertension and diabetes. There are also reports that Obua is being denied access to his lawyers and family.

EFCC set to probe Jonathan’s ministers, aides

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has concluded plans to commence the probe of the former President Goodluck Jonathan with investigations into the financial transactions of his ministers and aides.
The Chairman of the commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, had already directed that all petitions against former public officers at the federal level should be forwarded to him to be acted upon.
Findings showed that former ministers, special advisers, heads of parastatals and those of other Federal Government agencies would be invited for interrogation by the EFCC in few weeks from now.

Reports filtering in has it that Gordon Obua, the Chief Security Officer to the former President Goodluck Jonathan has died in the custody of the DSS. Both the CSO and the ADC to Goodluck Jonathan were arrested by the DSS and EFCC in what people have termed a witch hunt.
It should be recalled that events like this played out during Buhari's 1983 rule. While he had Northernes under house arrest, he killed most southerners. Dasuki, a Fulani like Buhari was placed under house again last week, while Jonathan's CSO was killed in prison.
