FG declares Fri July 17th and Mon July 20th public holiday
The Federal government has declared Friday July 17th and Monday July 20th public holiday to commemorate the end of the Ramadan fast.

According to The Nation, the unidentified victim was returning from Lagos to Obehie community in Abia state where her parents reside in John's taxi when the incident happened. He reportedly dragged the lady out of his car in a lonely road and pounced on her.
Her pleas that she was a virgin fell on deaf ears as the suspect forced himself on her and left her on the road. Luck however ran out on him when the victim notified a team on police who were patrolling the area.

President Buhari met with the newly appointed Service Chiefs at the State House earlier today. While addressing the new Service Chiefs, President Buhari charged the men to work towards restoring the lost glory of the Nigerian military. According to him, they were all appointed on merit.
“All of you, including the National Security Adviser, were chosen on merit. Your records gave you the job. Save for the new Chief of Army Staff whom I briefly met at his Command at the Multi-National Joint Task Force, in Chad, I don’t know any of you. Your records recommended you. Legally, you are in acting capacity until the National Assembly accepts you. It is only then that you will take the oath of office. Thereafter, we will sit down and talk in more detail,”

Naira now 241 against a dollar
Market indications as at yesterday July 13th showed that the Naira is now 241 against a dollar. Financial experts say the ban placed by CBN on importers from accessing Nigerian foreign exchange markets for the importation of 41 items has led to the volatility of the Naira-Dollar exchange rate at the black market.

A man was found with the head of an elderly man he'd killed at his farm... he was apprehend by youths in the village who took him to the station. The picture was taken inside the police station. Why he beheaded the man has not been confirmed.

5. Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan - Chief of Defence Intelligence
6. Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd.) - National Security Adviser
The new Chief of Defence Staff, Maj.-Gen. Olonishakin (N/6901) hails from Ekiti State. Until his appointment as Chief of Defence Staff today, he was the Head of the Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command in Minna, Niger State.
The new Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Buratai hails from Borno State. Until his new appointment today, he was the Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force which has its headquarters in Ndjamena. Maj-Gen. Buratai has previously served as Commander of the Nigerian Army's 2nd Brigade in Port Harcourt and Commander of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry in Jaji, Kaduna State.
The new Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibas (NN/0746) hails from Cross River State. He enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 26th Regular Course in 1979 and was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in 1983. His previous appointments include: Naval Provost Marshal, Chief Staff Officer, Naval Training Command, Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command and Chief of Logistics, Naval Headquarters. Until his appointment as Chief of Naval Staff, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Navy Holdings Limited.
The new Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar (NAF/1433) hails from Bauchi State. His previous appointments include: Chief of Standards and Evaluation, NAF Headquarters; Chief of Defence Communications and Air Officer Commanding, NAF Training Command. Until his new appointment today as Chief of Air Staff, he was the Chief of Administration, NAF Headquarters.
The new Service Chiefs will hold their appointments in an acting capacity until confirmed by the Senate.

How Robbers stabbed security man to death
A security man, identified as Wasiu Okanlawon, has been stabbed to death by armed robbers in the Ile Zik, Ikeja area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Wasiu, who was attacked last Friday at about 9pm, was killed while he and a female colleague were returning home from work.
It was gathered that Okanlawon and the colleague, whose name had yet to be ascertained, were going in a commercial bus, when the bus had a flat tyre. The bus passengers were said to have alighted, while the driver tried to change the tyre.

President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down an offer by the Federal
Government to buy 5 new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars for his
use. The cars which cost is about N400m were planned to be purchased by
the State House.

An Indonesian court on Monday July 6th sentenced 33 year old Nigerian man Uzoma Elele Alpha (pictured above) to life imprisonment for possessing banned substances - methamphetamine and marijuana - worth an estimated $451,400.
Uzoma was arrested at his apartment at the Margonda Residence tower in Depok in December 2014 during a raid by authorities from the immigration office. The banned substance was found in his home after a search was conducted. Uzoma was discovered to also be living in the country illegally.

APC, PDP at war over source of bailout funds
Top members of the APC and the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are reportedly divided over the sources of the N804.7 billion relief package being considered to bail out states who haven't paid workers salaries.
The PDP said that a very large amount of the bailout funds came from savings left behind by the administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, however, the Presidency disagreed, arguing that the money came from proceeds of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG).

Nigerians will beg us to return in 2019 - PDP
The National Vice Chairman of PDP South-South Zone, Dr. Cairo Ojugbou, says Nigerians will beg PDP to return to power in 2019. According to Punch, Dr Ojugbou said this at the party's zonal secretariat in Port Harcourt today while speaking on the crisis rocking APC and the national Assembly. He said the recent crises in the APC shows the party lacked ideology and coordination.
