After rumours of their relationship breakdown continued to spread Britney, 31, decided to release a statement to confirm the split.
She said: "Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends."
A spokesman for the couple added: "Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement... They came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends."Jason, 41, also issued his own statement to air his feelings on the break.
He said: "As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever."
According to US gossip site HollyScoop.com Jason was keen to end the engagment weeks ago but agreed to wait until her X Factor duties ended.
Hie Me Baby singer Britney has also removed Jason as her co-conservator, leaving her father Jamie as sole conservator.
The singer and her now former manager first confirmed they were dating in May 2010 before getting engaged in December 2011.
It would seem Britney was keen to tie up all loose ends on Friday when she also confirmed that she would not return to X Factor so that she could concentrate on recording her eighth studio album.
