Governor Shettima frees 30 prisoners in Borno

30 prisoners in various prisons in Maiduguri were yesterday freed by the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima.

According to the Governor, he granted the prisoners freedom because of the recommendations of State Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy.
He therefore promised to train the prisoners in skills and other trades to enable them become useful and contribute their quota to the development of the state.
“Your release does not mean that you should go back and commit criminal activities, because your being in prison was an act of God. So today, 20 of you are going home with transport money.
“Comptroller of Prisons will be paying you monthly salary of N10,000 until all of you are trained in various skills and traders.” He said.
He said the government will provide take off grants for them as soon as they regain their freedom.
Those released were Musa Salisu, Hamidu Babagana, Musa Kyari, Mohammed Ibrahim, Ali Isa, Abubakar Fannami, Ibrahim Kaka, among others.
