In line with President Jonathan's government policy of improving infrastructures across the country, some of the airports that were refurbished or remodeled are now ready for commissioning.
In a brief from the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. George Uriesi the ready-for-Commissioning Airports are as below.
1] The remodeled Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAIAK) will be commissioned tomorrow, March 15, 2013.
2] The remodeled Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri will follow on March 22, 2013.
3] These would be followed in quick succession by the remodeled airports in Yola, Enugu, Jos, Port-Harcourt and Kaduna on yet to be announced dates.
4] The remodeled Benin Airport was commissioned on March 8, 2013 by Governor Adams Oshiomole.
5] The Domestic Terminal 1, MMA was commissioned on October 22, 2012.
6] The General Aviation Terminal, Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport was commissioned on January 21,2013.
In a related development, the FAAN also said that work will soon begin on the construction of the five new international terminals in Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Enugu and Port-Harcourt by July this year. This development will pave way for the commencement of the Aerotropolis concept designed to turn around the fortunes of aviation in Nigeria.
