John Mikel Obi has been given a 3match ban has also been
fined £60,000 by the FA. The Football Association met today over the
case of Mikel Obi and referee Mark Clattenburg when he accused him of
calling him a 'monkey'.
Mikel pettioned the FA and he
asked for a personal hearing after admitting the use of threatening,
abusive and insulting words a towards the referee Mark Clattenburg after
the match that was played with Manchester United on 28 October this
year.
"The regulatory commission's independent chairman,
Christopher Quinlan QC, emphasized that the independent regulatory
commission accepted, as at the time he threatened the referee, the
player genuinely believed that the referee had racially abused him. But
for that factor the suspension would have been significantly longer'.
"Subsequently
the FA investigated the allegation that the referee racially abused the
player and found that there was not a case for him to answer." The FA
regulatory Commision Independent Chairman concluded.
Mikel Obi will have to watch his team play from the bench.
