Manicaland police spokesman Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the murder which occurred last Friday. He said Musa Bene (35) was left at home by his wife together with the maid Melody Musindo (22) when the incident happened.
"Allegations are that Bhene hatched a plan to rape his maid in his bedroom. He dragged her into the room, removed her clothes and tried to force himself on her.
The maid resisted his advances but this did not go down well with Bhene. He started assaulting the maid using his hands," he said.
Fearing that the girl would spill the beans, Bhene forced the girl to drink poison.
"After drinking the poison the maid told her neighbors that she was forced to drink it by her employer because she had threatened to tell his wife about the rape.
The neighbours ferried her to Mutare Provincial Hospital and she was admitted in the intensive care unit where she later died."
Insp Chishiri said on November 18, 2012 Bhene was arrested.
He will appear in court charged with murder
