Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA,
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has described President Goodluck Jonathan’s 52nd
Independence Anniversary speech as ‘empty’ promises that cannot come to
pass.
The erstwhile minister described the president’s 18 minutes live
broadcast as false claims and waste of time. El- Rufai further referred
to the speech as a claim of no visible evidence to show.
He
said: “Is it at all possible to react to nothing? The speech was 18
minutes of false claims of accomplishments no one can see or feel, and
promises that no one believes will be fulfilled.
“That is the
tragedy of our nation today. That is why a country which constitution
does not recognise any ‘state religion’ has resorted to a year of
publicly-funded prayer project, instead of the hard work of providing
inclusive leadership, honesty and integrity by example.”
He
advised Jonathan to wake up and tackle security, unemployment and other
challenges facing Nigeria as a nation, instead of giving ‘unnecessary’
credit to himself.
Also, speaking on the broadcast, Senator Domingo Obende, ACN, Edo North, said Nigerians need action, not words.
He called on president Jonathan to wake up before the nation hits the rock.
