The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) will Friday begin the
much-awaited flagship, Lagos-Kano Inter City Passenger Train and haulage
of petroleum products. Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar is
billed to perform the ceremony.
The train will depart Lagos by
9.00 am and will stop at major stations such as Abeokuta, Ibadan,
Oshogbo, Ilorin, Minna, and Kaduna before it finally arrives its Kano
terminal destination on Saturday morning.
The intercity passenger
train, which has been the preferred choice of the commuting public for
so many years, has standard coaches, air-conditioned sleeper and seater
coaches, restaurant, baggage vans, and effective power generating set
for the comfort of travellers.
In a statement, the corporation’s
Assistant Director, Public Relations, Mr. Olusegun Esan, said: “When the
passenger train service resumes, it is certain that the service will
bring tremendous impact to the transport sector while social integration
and interconnectivity of the nation will be further strengthened. The
service will foster communities’ living standard and is also expected to
enhance travellers’ safety, convenience and affordability.”
