Missing 19-Year-Old Autistic Boy Found

Ayomide Omope, the missing 19-year-old autism sufferer, has been found.
Ayomide was found in Eko General Hospital, Marina, Lagos on Wednesday.
Punch Metro had on Wednesday reported the story of the boy, who disappeared from his parents’ home in Ikorodu on January 31.

Ayomide’s mother, Houdah Omope, confirmed to our correspondent on the telephone that her son had been found.

She said Ayomide was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver on Monday in Obalende, Lagos, while he was roaming around aimlessly.

She said after the accident, Good Samaritans called in the ambulance which took him to the hospital.

Omope said, “It was Punch Metro story on Wednesday that saved our son. It was through the report in The PUNCH that the medical director of EGH called us.

“The boy has some bruises and broken teeth. We are happy we have found him. I thank the Babatunde Fashola government for providing the ambulance which was used to take our son to the general hospital. I also wish to thank many members of the Autistic Awareness Group for standing by us throughout the period of the search.”

She added that Ayomide had been released to them and had been taken to Oak Hospital, Agric, Ikorodu.
